Hello from Bali!!

I struggled on the category as they do not have being very lazy as an option!! So I have found an internet cafe that is not quite as slow as the others!! I am afraid the Bali snaps will be added when I get home because I could be here all day!!

Well we arrived in Bali a week ago after 10 hours of flying from NZ. I was a bit of a shock to the system when we first arrived at Dempasar, 2 things hit us the heat and the pestering. It was very like Thailand. We got our things pretty quick and headed into a taxi to Kuta where our first hotel was. In brief the hotel from the outside....... not bad we thought (it was late at night mind). Anyway when we got to our room we were hit with the smell of turps or something strong like that, and the heavily decorated room had a mermaid with wingd coming out of the ceiling.... very classy I thought! We only booked this place for 2 nights thank goodness as over breakfast the biggest rat you have ever seen ran up the wall!

The next day we walked around and looked at various hotels and managed to find a beautiful place and bartered the guy down to the eqiv. of 20 pounds per night wich is crazy as the hotel is probably 4 star!! So until yesterday all we have done is sunbathed slept and drank a few 50p beers!

Yesterday we booked on to do a 40km bike ride by the biggest volcano in Bali. (Don't panic it was mostly downhill!! It was a great trip we started off with brekkie and then headed off, we went through local villages and all of the children were waving and shouting hello! (They love westerners they think that fair skin is very special). It was a real eye opener to see the real Bali and how different their way of life is. They were all so friendly and wanted to tell you all about there religion and way of life which we found fascinating.

So that brings me to today and its a bit rainy so I am thinking more of the same just sitting on our bottoms and reading or sleeping! For some reason my body clock is still on NZ time and I have woken up every morning at 4 so during the day I need to snooze!

Well we will probably send another blog at the weekend as on Friday it is New Year here for the Hindu and there will be lots to report!
