We took an over night bus from Hanoi to Hue. The roads were so bumpy I thought that I was at flippin' Alton Towers. They just have no road courtesy, all night you hear BEEEEEP BEEEP and lights flashing.. you spend the whole time concentrating on praying that you're still alive when you reach your destination rather than trying to sleep!
I was awake from about 5am when dawn was breaking and the scenery was staggering. Bright green fields with people working on them. Ox roaming everywhere.. it was pretty amazing. I really felt like I was in Vietnam now. The contrast of the manic Hanoi with the countryside was amazing. When we finally arrived we were all so shattered we just flopped into the nearest guesthouse.
Hue is so beautiful, we decided to have a full sightseeing day.. even though it was sooo hot and sweaty! We went to the Imperial City which is the palace and it's grounds. It was gorgeous. You could see how much craftsmanship had gone into all the intricate adorments in the buildings. The palace itself was half burned down and I'm sure in it's hayday was stunning and to be honest it still is. We wandered aorund the city and saw the huge flag pole and all the other sites. We walked along the river and into the parks. It was just a really nice day. We werent staying in Hue long as we wandered to keep moving and after our full day of looking around we felt as if we'd seen it all.
Off to Hoi An next.. the place to get suits, dresses, shoes and all sorts made! x
