We were up with the larks at 5 to try and watch the sunrise and headed back to the peak along with about 30 others. Sadly, mist enveloped the peak and we struggled to see 10 feet away, let alone the the sunrise! We headed to the restaurant and chugged back some noodles to power us on our way and set off to reach the other peaks. The exertions of the previous day left our legs pretty heavy but we reached the highest point of the mountain, the 2,196m South peak, before mid morning. After that the walk round to the final peak, the 2,038m West mount, along a precipitous ridge passed quickly and we were soon heading back down towards the North Peak. From there we decided to cop out and took the easy option of the cablecar down for a picturesque 10 minute descent to the base.
We headed back to Xian with a nice feeling of achievement and resolved to head out for a few beers. We had a hit & miss dinner (lovely pork dish but pretty bland everything else) before heading back to the 'strip'. sadly, despite the October 1st holiday week being in full swing the bars were mostly deserted and Dave and I soon found our heads nodding and decided to call it a night. The only incident of note was a waitress handing me an origami swan she had fashioned comtaining her phone number and a request for English lessons. I hadn't even spoken to her except to order the beers!
