A very early start this morning 4.30am to see the sunrise at Angkor Wat. I have attached a picture that I didn't take 1) because I forgot my camera! Doh! 2) it was cloudy and there was no spectacular sunrise. Although we arrived early and in the dark, all the tourists have the same idea however as no camera I sat on the quieter side of the temple by the lake and relaxed whilst waiting for sun to rise. We explored the temple Angkor Wat with it's many detailed stone carvings showing hindu history, the temple is on three tiers to top being the most sacred part where you must dress covered to knee. It was so peaceful at the top of the temple very reverent. My favourite temple was Bayon with it's many faces of Buddha. As you enter the temple there are groups of wild monkeys nearby, the foundations of the temple are so deep there is a well you can draw water from, although after looking at the colour of the water I definately didn't want to drink it but the local Khmer people believe it brings them good luck. Finally we visited Ta Prohm aka Tomb Raider temple after the Angelina Jolie film that was filmed here. The temple is covered in moss which allows the trees to grow on, in, around and through the temple. This evening we eat dinner at the temple restaurant in Siem Reap and watch traditional Cambodian dancing, we then take full advantage of the happy hour cocktails and $1 beers.
