Cruised overnight to the East coast of Argentina to hit the second spot on our Argentina; "This is all rather weird" list. The first one was a place called Difunta Correa, which translates as Correa defunct. Legend has it a women in the 1840s called Deolinda Correa was walking in the dessert when she died of thirst, carrying her baby. Passing men found her later and her baby was still suckling at the dead womens nip. This was declared a miracle and a shrine was quickly erected at the site. Legend now has across this fair land that if you leave her a little present, a bottle of water goes down very well, then you can ask for a miracle. Over the past 167 years the shrine got bigger and bigger. A school was built, a post office, gas station, church, hotels, restaurants and many souvenir shops! Honestly, I´m not making this up. Truckers have really taken to this legend and now its standard practice to leave a piece of your car/truck at the site. There is enough junk to make even scrapheap challenge salivate at the opportunity´s. On special days around 200,000 people arrive to make a wish, when we arrived I watched a guy crawl up the hill on his hands and knees to the shrine! Nuts.

So anyway, the second weird list entry was a place called Gaiman. 1840s, again, something in the water during this period of time, and the Welsh are sick of English persecution. They apply to Argentina for land in Patagonia and are granted some. 150 Welsh sail over and start another little corner of Wales, right her. We visited Gaiman today to partake in a little afternoon tea and scones in a traditional welsh tea house. It was a steal when we heard it was all you can eat cake and pie and bottomless tea we stuffed cake all afternoon and guess what its cake tonight for tea!
