After a few days in Karratha chilling out, going to the swimming pool and eating gorgeous food it was time for our camping trip. Not before a good night out on the Bundy and coke first!
We started in the Tambrey centre which is kind of a cross between butlins and an airport lounge ...this is where we met up with Mike and efong who we had been out to dinner with a few nights ago. They are a really lovely couple and mike works for the same company as Jayne's brother Graeme.
All of Graeme's work mates were out too as a contract had finished so they were celebrating leaving Karratha we think..teehee... They all decided to go to the Tavern and we thought we would join them. This is a bar with a little more atmosphere than anywhere else in Karratha blatently because the barmiads are topless.. hahah the rum and cokes were flowing and all of us ended up sitting outside chatting away! The Tav still closed at around 11pm.. rubbish!!! we were just getting started so we both went back with Graeme and Kev to anothers guys place where we could carry on drinking.. Kev was dancing on the coffee table and attempting tricks on a chair. A lovely bloke called 'Aussie' (he is australian - novel eh??) got smacked in the eye by a flying protein shake container..oops....but thankfully our eyes and limbs stayed intact to finish off the evening at the early hrs..
So 6am Easter Friday we left with a very packed out Toyota Prado! everything but the kitchen sink was in that we promise! We drove 5 hrs to Karijini National Park. It was HOT!!!!!! and looking very dry..no water to be seen as of yet!
Next job - pitching a tent.. hmmmmm... well you can kind of imagine it can't you??!! 2 brats, sweating in the heat, trying to work out a tent which the instuctions came in the form of stickmen drawings and an extremely limited amount of words! just to add to our problems the ground was so hard that when hammering the pegs in they just kinda ..well... COMPLETELY BENT!well, it took a while but we got there in the end.. and had a refreshing rum and coke.!
We were all so hot we would have done anything to jump in a lake so it was time to go and explore..We found a trail where there was water only 20 mins from the beginning of the walk. Great!! off we went but the flies were horendous... when we say horendous.. it mean that we had to wear the most stylish of flynests around our heads ALL of the time.. teehee... we finally got to the water and within 5 mins Lisa swallowed a fly! EWGGGHHHHH!! oh my life she nearly puked in the water straight away.. it wouldnt go down her throat it was just buzzing around in the back of her mouth and no coughing would shift it.. had to drink to get it to go down. That was it - the flynet was back on and here to stay!
Not long after Mike als swallowed a fly so that made me realise it wasnt just because of my large mouth that is harly shut! hahah ..no need to agree everyone!
We had cooled off and made our way back to the tents for some dinner and drinks..
Over the next couple of days we climbed a few gorges, swam in waterfalls and had a fantastic time.. the weather decided to take a turn for the worst - surprise, we think we boght it from NZ as Graeme has seen rain only a few times in nearly a year! No worries, Lisa and Jayne seem to be able to sort that little problem out dont we! :o)
One night the rain, wind and thunderstorms got so bad that we all had to shelter in the porch of Graemes and Ivy's tent - yes 6 adults in a teeny tiny space, lots of alcohol and the smallest dvd player you ever did see. hahahah...
Time to go home .... but stopping on the way at Whim Creek pub..! nice one... and then to Port Samson for dinner by the beach.. yum yum..
We really loved camping but we have to say our bed at Graeme's house was a welcome sight.. hahaha. The next day we went to the beach with Kev, Jude, Jack and Jasmine. We were kite flying and sand car making before heading off for another gorgeous meal.. we have to enjoy this as its back to 50 cents noodles from here on out.. teehee
