We were very happy to get somewhere where we knew we could settle for a few nights. Thongbay guesthouse is amazing...we had a gorgeous bunglow and there were seating areas on the grounds which overlook the Mekong River (not that we hadn't seen enough of that already!)..
We could finally have a good night out without having to worry about travelling with a hangover (getting old) so it was definately ON! After dinner we went to Hive bar with Mo, Dara, Laura and Renee. Special offer was Hive cocktail which is Lao Lao whiskey that could also be used for stripping paint or removing nail varnish (true fact). Tasted good with lots of lemon and sugar! We were having a great time messing around but bars have to close legally at 11pm ..sucks! The only place that stays open is a bowling alley and they only serve Beerlao (ewwww) . Hmmm the bowling alley was odd and not sure we have the words to describe it??!! just plain odd! We got chatting to a few guys who were doing the same kind of route as us while Mo got obscenely drunk! We ended up having to put him to bed..hahah..
Thankful for a lie in the next morning after all our Lao lao whiskey we woke up to breakfast being brought to our porch..yummy yummy pancakes!
The afternoon was spent at Kuang si Falls where we swam in the waterfall and Mo slept on a bench to recover (lightweight). A nice hangover cure we must say! An early night was needed as we were off elephant treking the next morning! It took only 30 minutes to get to the elephant camp and there they were lined up ready and waiting. They were quite small to be honest, we climbed up onto the platform to sit on the rickity old bench strapped to the top of the elephants. We were waiting in line and then they brought out this HUGE elephant and luck would have it that it was ours, WHAT? it's massive! and the only thing holding you on is a wooden bar resting across the bench (which slid off). Ok this could be the end of the fun trip! It was absolutley hilarious yet we were petrified at points when we were going downhill and sliding under the bar!..Our elephant was so well behaved until we got the river..where it decided to bend its legs and lie down for a wash...are u serious! Even the guide sitting on his head started freaking out! shouting "BAD ELEPHANT!"..we couldnt resist laughing and shouting it too! We are happy to tell you we survived the trek, it was such a fantastic experience! We met Laura and hungout in town for the rest of the day.
We absolutely loved Luang Prabang, a very relaxing place with beautiful night markets and friendly locals...we really didnt want to leave!
