Stunning. Absolutely stunning. White blonde, tall, curvacious ..... no i'm not talking about Lauren - It's the beaches on Koh Phi Phi.
We know that it has been a while since we last posted an update, but we have been waiting until we arrived here - just so we could really rub it in, haha!!
So, at the moment we have a bungalow on the beach front, looking out on to white sand and the clearest water I have ever seen. I say bungalow, but really it is a hut with a tin roof, and a cold hose-pipe for a shower lol - we are on a budget still don't forget... But the location more than makes up for the accommodation.
We arrived on the island from Phuket yesterday, and just rocked up with no-where to stay. Phi-Phi is packed at-the-moment as it is high-season, but we were lucky to grab a cheapish room for three nights.
Today we went on a boat trip around the islands - Phi Phi Lay and Phi Phi Don. In a previous blog we said that 'Halong Bay' was the most beautiful place we have ever seen. Well, scratch that, Phi Phi is truely jaw-dropping. We visited 'Maya Bay', which is where Leonardo Di'Caprio's, 'The Beach' is filmed, and that just took our breath away. The water was full with tropical fish that we snorkelled with and the sand was whiter than Rachael Kelly's teeth lol!! We could have stayed there forever.. After an hour there, we got the speedboat over to Bamboo Beach. This is hands down, in our opinion, the most beatiful place we have ever seen. It was crystal water that peacefully lapped the white strip of sand, which just didn't seem to end. It really was perfect.
The nightlife here is pretty good for a small island as well. Most of the islands infrastructure was destroyed in the 2004 Tsunami, but it has been rebuilt and is full of Western travellers like us, so we are loving it here, and have three more nights :)
Talking of nightlife, before Phi Phi we were in Patong, which is the raving 'Benidorm-esc' town in Phuket. We stayed for three nights and had a wicked time. The beach was jam packed with tourists and the sun was roasting each day. Then at night, the ladyboy's took over and the streets glowed neon. We popped into a ping-pong show too (excuse the pun) for 10 mins, but it was f***ing weird, enough said.... God knows what a 'Cat-fish show' is????
Before Patong, we were in Phuket Town - just 30 minutes away - and we stayed in a hostel, similar to that in Hanoi.. It hasn't all been beautiful places for us though, as Phuket Town is probably one of the dirtiest and smelliest places we have been to. The streets were crawling with rats (Lauren's worst nightmare) and cockroaches. We were glad to leave - put it that way...
The coach ride there from our beautiful apartment in Hui Hin was an absolute joke. I am sorry if it seems like I just moan about the coach journeys, but this one truely was the worst! The driver thought he was Nigel Mansell - driving at 90mph around hair-pin bends. An inch or two over and we would have fallen from the road , which were all on cliffs. Once again, Lauren's stomach showed that it isn't cut out for travelling and she threw up on the back of the coach into a carrier bag! (bright orange - like fanta with carrot in - photo to follow on facebook soon). The Chinese lad next to us was really NOT impressed and sat for the remainder of the journey with his jumper over his nose!
We made it though, but there were genuinely times when we were scared for our lives!! :(
We had a brilliant time chilling at the appartment in Hui Hin. It was quiet and more of a town for 50-year-old retirees, but it was nice to relax after a month backpacking...Our days consisted of, sunbathing round the pool, going to the gym, going out for the BEST curry we have ever had and then watching a DVD...After two weeks we had a tan and were ready to start again, however, sunbathing on the beach with crystal water is hardly travelling is it? haha!!!
So whats next?? We are going to spend a few more nights here topping up the tan, and then we head to KO PANANG for the Full-Moon party on the 19th. Then we plan to go to KOH SAMUI, where I will be getting Lauren smashed for her birthday and then we fly to Kuala Lumpar on 24th (when our Thai visa expires!)
2 weeks till OZ - boooooooooooooooooom!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope your all ok, will blog after Moon-Mania to let you know what its like..
Any news? Please write on our MESSAGE BOARD, we always check it when we get internet and love hearing from you!
