Ahh English weather, how we have missed you!! It's probably only fair that we encountered some rain after two months of sun! And wow, in Kuala Lumpur when it rains...it rains!!
We crossed the border yesterday, after spending an amazing month in Thailand, experiencing lots of beautiful places and meeting lots of wonderful people. So we were sad to say goodbye to it but excited to step foot into the fourth country on our travels.
Starting with the positives, Thailand showed us Phi Phi (the most beautiful set of islands ever), Koh Phangan (the most crazy island ever), Bangkok (the smelliest city ever), Hui Hin (the quiestest place ever), Phuket (the most ladyboys ever) and Koh Samui, (well not a lot really happens there lol).
When we last wrote we were in Phi Phi and were in a crummy bungalow shared with mossies and a few cockroaches. We left and headed in to the centre and found a hostel. 26 beds in one dorm room, no air-con just a load of electric fans - that sounds like hell in 30 degree heat i hear you say? Well it was but the people and the location made it almost perfect. We strolled in and dumped our bags and it was nice to see lots of young English travellers. We got chatting and by the end of three nights there we had a little family going on.. Nathan from Manchester, Mikey from Bradford, Jade from Narrabri (a town in Oz), Pedro (the most un-german bloke i have ever met), Gary (from Horsham near me), two girls from Bournemouth, Sam and Harry from Cambridge and Nunka from Holland. All a wicked set of guys and all eventualy heading to the same place on the 19th Feb.....FULL MOON PARTY!!!
Some were staying on Koh Phangan (the island of the party) but accommodation was full so Nathan, Pedro, Jade, Nunka, Lauren and I went to Koh Samui and planned to stay there but get a boat over to the island. We had a right touch and Lonely Planet a.k.a The Bible, threw us a lovely place. A bungalow that slept six, overlooking the sea for 4 quid a night!
We headed over to the party the next day all buzzing, and the island was packed! We got our neon paints, t-shirts and head bands and went for dinner where I painted everyone. Met up with all our hostel mates, and got on the beers. Pre-drinking began at a beach bungalow with Mikey and some Ozzie guys, then we went to the party at 11.30! I have never seen anything quite like it. The beach was jam-packed with people covered in neon, buckets of alcahol in hand raving to the many parties that all merged into ione! As much fun as we had, we saw a lot of dangerous and horrible things, however, we came away unscathed, more or less sober after having a wicked time! There is always going to be bad things going on when 40,000 people are at a 24hr beach rave, but "as long as you have your wits about you, you will be in safe hands and it will be amazing!!!" (White, C 2011)
So after a day recovering we left our friends to go our separate ways, however, we stayed on Koh Samui to celebrate Laurens b-day... here she is to tell all:
WOW, Conors let me write on his blog (it must be my birthday!) Hello everyne, thank you for all your kind birthday wishes..im now 22 years of age!!!! So i woke up on my special day hanging out of my ass, as conor got me stupidly drink the night before! When it hit 12, the barman came over with a flaming hot sambucca which i had to neck infront of everyone...meanwhile the live band in the bar sang happy birthday to me! After a load more cocktails, conor and I went up and sang our heart out with the band was jokes! We meet a bunch of ozzie's in there and they bought me a few drinks too (result!) MOved on and headed to a few more bars where the alchol continuted to flow nicely! Ended up passing out back at the hotel.
8AM Conor starts singing in my earhole HAPPY BIRTHDAYYYYYYYYYY!!! Wahoo im 22! I sat up in bed and opened my cards from mummy and daddy (not ross???), Nanny and Gramps, Jane and Lissa, The girls from home, a lovely letter from sarah O'niell and a homemade card from my boyfriend!!! Thank you everyone, they all made me very homesick! I was a very lucky girl and got a Cartier ring, Links bracelet, Hairspray (trust me its heaven when ur travelling) and a whole day planned out! After breakfast we both drove up on a moped to the highest and beautifulist natural waterfalls i have ever seen! We had lunch over looking the crystal clear water then went for a swim! WAS BEAUTIFULLLLL!!! Conor then drove me back into town to a Thai Spa where i had an hour long full body massage (he did too lol) and a manicure and pedicure! I was literally in heaven!!! He then treated me to dinner at a Peri Peri restaurant and surprised me with a birthday cake (well brownie with candles lol). The night finished with a skype session to mum, dad and ross who i miss very much!!! I had the most amazing 22nd birthday ... thanks to My Conroy!!! Love you! xxx
Aww aren't I nice! So now we are in KL... and I am sorry to put a downer on the last two paragraphs but we have not had the greatest time so far! :( The journey from Koh Samui took 23 hours in total. We had to change bus five times and when we got dropped in what we were told was KL, it turned out it wasn't!! We were in the middle of no-where at 4.30am and a load of Muslim taxi drivers surrounded us and a Dutch couple. We had no choice but to take the hour long taxi to the centre and we knew we were going to be scammed! We couldn't even share a cab with the other couple as they said it was against the law (b******s). When they dropped us off it wasn't where we asked to go, and they charged an extortionate amount! An arguement broke out between us and the four taxi drivers (the drivers each bought a bum-chum along) we argued and refused to pay so much and they said they called the police. Happily waiting for the police to arrive we waited, but they didn't show, but the arguement was getting pretty serious and threatening. In the end I payed slightly less than they asked but argueing with four muslim taxi drivers at 5.30am is not the best welcome eh??
Using our travelling experience lol, we knew that checking in to hotel now, would mean that we had to be out by 12, which was only a few hours! The ohter couple got a room, but me and Lou walked 20 mins to Chinatown (where we were supposed to be dropped) and found a McDonalds! We sat in there, along with a few tramps, and had a coffee and a hash brown and waited till the sun came up, so we could go to our hotel and check in for that day - genious eh???? It wasn't the greatest day, in-fact the worst day of our travels so far - but we have had some amazing luck so far over the past two months!
So we have checked into a crumby little hostel, but it's cheap and clean, for two nights. However, to top it all off, as I mentioned in the intro it is thundering and lightening constantly so we can't really go sight seeing! Guess we will have to sit tight and dream about going to OZ in four days..wahoo!!!!!!
We are both safe, well and in good spirits...it's all part of travelling I guess!! Going Singapore in two days ready for our flight!!!!
How are you all at home?? We miss you lots... any news???
Love and miss you all
