It was an early start so we had to be ready for the mini bus once the bus arrived we grabbed our kit and of we went on our 6 hour journey.
On the bus with us was 2 English girls Jenny & Emma they was traveling together, also a Australian girl called Claire i was sat next to Claire so we got talking as you do the other guys was talking to the 2 girls as well so we arrange to stay at the same guest house once we all arrived.
The journey wasn't to bad it want through some breath taking scenery once we arrived in Vangvieng we booked ourselfs into the vangvieng guest house over looking the river.
It was around half 4 by the time we got there so me and Paul grabbed a shower (not together i might add LOL)once we was in our room.
We all met up and had a walk around it was only a small village so not much was happening really, so we grabbed some grub and went for a few beers.
The main reason people head this way is for the Tubing this envoles jumping into a tractor tire innatube a sailing down the river... you might ask yourself why but the reason for this is because the locals have put bars up along the river banks, they have?put up Rope slides and swings as well.
So as the day roles on the drunker people get and the more daring they get LOL... as we would find out.
We had arrange to meet everyone at half 10 the next day so we paid for our tubing jumped on the Tuc Tuc and drove about 6k out of town where we was dropped of, we had a little walk to the water, before we got in the water, we had a little surprise for Paul the girls Lind's and Lisa had bought him a nice little outfit to wear for his birthday the other?day it came?with a matching Feather boa and a lovely hat, all i can say is see the photo's.
Anyway we jumped in the river and headed for our first bar the local guys pull you in it would cost us 3000 kip to use the rope swing or if you bought a beer Lao you can jumped as often as you like...
Myself and Paul grabbed a beer and climbed up to use the rope slide Paul went first it was around 25 feet high and it was made out of Bamboo poles so you can imagine it didn't look the safest..
But we survived, anyway we carried on down the river visiting more bars we met loads of other guys and girls at the bars, we met 2 Kiwi lads they joined us on the river and a lad called paddy a fellow Brit he tagged along with us me and him would double up on a couple of the rope swings we nearly landed on each other a few times?as we both let go together good job we was pissed..
In the end there must have been about 20 of us floating down the river together by this time it was getting dark as well we had been on the river for nearly 7 hours you can imagine we was hammered, but we got back quick shower and out for food and more beer lao
And guess what we did the same thing again the next day but this time there was more people on the river so we had another fantastic day.
The next day we was of to Vietaine,?so as a group we decided it would be fun to kayak from Vangvieng 2 Vietaine.... So in the morning we headed to the travel office where we was being picked up we had an hours drive in a sontale (bit like a tuc tuc but bigger).
We reached our destination hopped out and jumped into our Kayaks and of we went following our guides... it was lovely and peaceful and the views were fantastic we had been paddling for about 2 hours when we came across the rapids these was around a grade 3 so we pulled into the rocks before and got out.. we would all go through either with a guide or on your own so i went 1st with my guide it was over within seconds but it was fun, the girls all went with the guides Lindsey was the only one to wipe out.
Paddy and Paul decided to go on there own Paddy made it trough ok but Paul wiped out at the last point that was funny.. i decided i wanted to go through on my own so i jumped in a double man Kayak the guide was trying to tell me it was to big but didn't care i just wanted to go through and guess what i wiped out in good fashion.. i eventually surfaced a little way down the river didn't thing i was going to though..
We carried on for a bit longer until the guides pulled over they stopped at a massive rock ledge about 30ft above the water they wanted us to climb up and jump in.. we climbed up to the ledge it was a long way down i have to admit i had second thoughts, Paul Paddy & me played rock, paper, scissors to see who would go 1st Pad lost so of he went it was hell of a way but we all did it....
we carried on down the river until we reached our pickup point, we had about an hour to drive till we reached Vietaine..
