We have just had the best time in Niagara Falls. On Tuesday, Karen's Australian friend, Jill, hired a car & we all travelled from JFK Airport & up the New York thru-way (highway) to Niagara in Canada!!!
Lots of cars, trucks, BIG service centres roughly every 40 - 50 miles (2 storey parking, 2 storey service centres with a variety of food, shopping, automatic flush toilets, automatic taps in the restrooms & automatic paper dispensers - everything is automatic !!)
Jill is magnificent, she had a Kia Sorrento LH drive, & had to drive out of JFK on the RH side of the road. She did a wonderful job & even though Karen & Rick also were designated drivers, they weren't required. The trip took about 8 hours & the countryside was sooooo green with lots of trees, farms, barns & everything is BIG !!
As we had to cross the border into Canada, we had to go thru Immigration & we have more stamps in our passports.
We stayed at a wonderful B&B at a place called Niagara-on-the-Lake. It was like this perfect small village out of a movie set (Wisteria Lane in "Desperate Housewives"), perfect gardens, perfect streets, so clean, & houses that looked like giant doll houses.
Our hostess at the B&B was a lovely Irish lady called Yvonne - she reminded me of Mrs Doubtfire -who came to Canada 44 years ago for a 1 year holiday & stayed. She gave us a hearty breakfast each morning, gave us directions & wished us on our merry way, reminding us not to leave any alcohol in the fridge as she was Irish.
