Tassie Trip
Day 6
Bicheno - Swansea - Spikey Bridge - Kate's Berry Farm - Tribianna - Pirate Bay - Tasman Arch - Devils Kitchen - Port Arthur - White Beach.
I've decided that Tasmanian Roads should be renamed Dead Possum Highway with just a number afterwards. There is that much possum roadkill it's not funny!
We packed up and left the beach at just after 8.30 and wound our way down the coast. Our first stop was the town of Swansea which had a beautiful lookout up to Freycinet and the sunshine vista we missed out on the other day. The bay is called 'Great Oyster Bay' and it's a massive bay of pure clear water with the Hazzards overlooking it in the background.
We drove on to a convict built stone 'Spikey' bridge which was all built by hand and then onto Kate's home grown berry farm where we tasted all types of jams grown on their farm overlooking the coast.
From there it was another windy twisty drive through Tribianna and onto a beautiful lookout over Pirate Bay - oh to liver in Pirate Bay....and on to Tasman Arch and the Devils Kitchen - all carved out rock platforms from the raging sea.
We then made a b-line for the historic site of Port Arthur and spent a lovely few hours in the glorious sunshine at this place stacked with our convict history past. We did a 40 minute tour of the grounds before watching a short 'convict' written play and walking the ruins of this beautiful location.
Our campsite tonight is in another beautiful location at White Beach - 10kms from Port Arthur and it's the fine white sandy beach that I'm sitting on now writing this post tonight.
Tomorrow it's boat tours of the coast and more Port Arthur exploration.
