Day 66
Georgetown
"riding on the range, I got my hat on, I got my boots dusty, I've got my horse....."
Well partners, we stayed another day in Georgetown. The lure of the rodeo was just too great.....ok we needed to do heaps of washing and where we wanted to head to didn't have any sites for us.
So we spent the first bit of the morning washing stuff and then drove to the visitors centre about 400m away to get some information about the road ahead and then went back out to the rodeo grounds.
Competition hotted up today - there were bucking broncos (with and without saddles), steer wrestling ( jumping off the horse to tackle the running calf, tag team calf roping ( head and feet) bucking bulls and even U8 poddy calf riding!
Lots of thrills and spills today! Highlights included a bull upending one of the rodeo clowns into the air and over the fence with its horns! One girl roped a calf pretty quickly out of the gates and the calf was running so fast the rope caught and it ended up flying through the air 360 degrees backwards - how it's neck didn't break I don't know!
Plenty of bulls, cows and horses ploughing into either the dirt or the fences too.
The Georgetown Rodeo was an interesting fashion scene as well! There were the travelers like us - easily spotted and then there were the locals. Some were dressed in their very finest country attire - fresh jeans, brand new RM Williams shirt etc, new hat maybe. Girls with lots of makeup and tight jeans with bling belts and boots. Boys with oversize belt buckles and boots with spikes. It really was funny to watch!
But the bling didn't end with the belt buckles and diamontes on jeans - no - even the bridles on their horses were blinged up too! Some were even wearing matching bling to the horses bling - like a purse has to match an outfit!
We had a great day of entertainment both on and off the rodeo arena! Their day finished at about 3.30 and so we wandered back to our van and walked back to the pool for another swim - it was still well over 30 degrees then.
Tonight we finished off the last 7 massive Queenfish steaks remaining on the bbq for dinner.
Tomorrow we leave Georgetown and head further East - towards the Undara National Park.
