Day 77
Agnes Water - Bundaberg - Childers - Hervey Bay
" Hit city
Sharp nights
Rag clothing
Dancing on the Jetty......"
And the wind did howl and the caravan did shake and things went flying in the night !
Last night the wind really picked up. So much so that half the park was awake just before midnight busily packing up awnings and preparing the storm kits! I had to tape the power outlet cover that was banging against the van....
At least with the howling winds I thought that the crap weather would blow itself away. Well it didn't fully but we had patches of blue and even sun today!
We left Agnes Water and drove into Bundaberg under dark skies though. Bundaberg is a pretty town and we drove into their gardens and down to the river before heading out to the Bundaberg Ginger Beer Distillery for a look around. We left with the sample 6 pack of bottles to taste!
Back in the car, it was on towards Hervey Bay our stop for tonight. We drove through the township of Childers which is heritage listed and we could see why instantly! Such beautiful old buildings and our drive by just didn't do the town justice. Next time hey!
We got into Hervey Bay just before lunch again and off loaded the van, had lunch and then went exploring. It's a much bigger town than we imagined - seeing as we've only ever seen it from the coastline of Fraser Island before! We though it would be like Airlie Beach.
We drove along the Esplanade, walked the huge jetty and along the beach and drove out to the harbour and up the coastline. The weather improved as the afternoon went on.
Before dinner we walked down to the beach and wandered along for a while - that's 3 nights in a row at a different beach!
Tomorrow begins the end of our trip. A couple of long days of driving ahead of us to get home. We'll track inland tomorrow and head for the border .
It's fast coming to an end sadly - but all fun has to end sometime I guess.
