Day 68
Innot Hot Springs - Ravenshoe - Cairns
"one banana, two banana, three banana, four. Four bananas make a bunch and so do many more....."
Sugar to the left, Bananas to the right....
A totally different driving day today. We left Innot at 9am after another plunge in the hot pools and continued our journey towards the coast.
We stopped at Millstream Falls which are the widest falls in Australia and is a pretty little spot. Shame you can't camp there overnight - unless of course you are a backpacker in a Wicked van - they just stay anywhere!
From Millstream we drove into the township of Ravenshoe. It's another great little country town. We picked up some freshly baked bread and Corinne couldn't resist buying some fresh vanilla slices so we stopped and had morning tea in the park by the river.
Leaving Ravenshoe, we travelled down the mountains stopping to look out over the green valleys and fields below us and at Crawfords Gap to see how Cyclone Larry destroyed a 15m wide strip right up the mountain side. It's now a nice plunging view to the North Johnstone river flowing a few kms away.
We then farewelled Corinne's parents who turned South whilst we headed North towards Cairns.
As soon as you reach the Bruce Highway the scenery turns from rainforest into farming. Bananas on one side and Sugar on the other - sometimes next to each other too.
We are stopping in Cairns for a few days to relax before heading for home .
Tonight we were entertained by some leg slapping dancing by the Eidelweiss Dance Group from Cairns. Shame there was no Bavarian beer to go with the entertainment, but lots of lederhosen and apron swirling and chicken dances and kicks up the backside!
Tomorrow we relax - lots of swimming, mini golf, maybe more swimming.....
