Day 74
Airlie Beach and Shute Harbour
"all the cops in the donut shop say way oh way oh ooh wayo wayo...."
We needed to chat to the boys in blue today.
We awoke to grayish skies with blue tinges and intermittent light rain again today. It's hard to get used to rain again after glorious sunshine for so long. Still, it's not enough rain to stop you from doing anything - wont even wash the car!
We left at about 9am to drive into Airlie Beach proper and out to Shute Harbour. We've only seen Shute Harbour from the other side - from Hamilton and Long Island so it was a first for us. The azure coloured water still looks as good as ever but the kids didn't want a swim at the lagoon in Airlie.
We instead wandered the main drag - in and out of all the shops. I bought Cayla a great pair of sunnies from Cotton On for $2.
On our way back to the car, there's a note saying some clown had backed into the Disco, beer in hand, and then driven off. It was witnessed by about a dozen people at the Nomads hotel we'd parked outside of and the details were written down . Just a bent number plate and a cracked cover so nothing serious at all thankfully. Still we thought we'd report it to the police just in case something was amiss and so they could be on the lookout for the other car.
As we drove into the Police Station, Cayla says " I'm not going to wear my new sunnies in Dad....." I replied "Why, they aren't the fashion police, you 'll have nothing to worry about!"
Reporting over, we drove back to the park and played mini golf and then Cayla decided she would be brave enough to have a swim.
That's about all the adventures we got up too today. A short break in a beautiful place in the world (even if the weather isn't so great this time).
Tomorrow we continue South towards Rockhampton.
