Outback Adventure 2019
Day 13
Kings Canyon - Erldunda - Finke River - Alice Springs
We awoke to cloudy skies this morning for the first time this trip. There was no chance of rain but it was strange nevertheless. The sun did manage to put on a show briefly but then hid behind the cloud over for most of our morning. We packed up and got underway just after 8.30 this morning heading for Alice Springs.
Our drive back to both the Lasseter highway and then Stuart Highways was uneventful. We did stop briefly at Mt Ebenezer for a reminder of our previous visit. It was the worst place to stay 9 years ago and is now completely closed. The buildings and remnants/rubble remain but no one was upset that it was closed down.
We drove onto Erldunda truckstop on the corner of the Lassiter and Stuart to top up our fuel before tackling the remaining 200ks to Alice.
We stopped for lunch at the dry Finke River and were greeted by the thousands of flies that wanted to share their environment with us. Pretty spot but the locals we could do without!
Moving on we got into Alice at about 2pm. After we setup we hit the Todd River Mall Woolies for a shopathon! We had almost run out of decent food and needed the topup.
A bit of luxury for the next 4 nights st the Big4 caravan park in Alice Springs! The amenities quality and cleanliness are a very welcome change !
We drove 468 kms today and enjoyed our beers and bbq dinner tonight.
Tomorrow we take a drive out to the West Macdonnell Ranges for a day of walking and swimming.
