We started the day fairly casually. We had booked our ferry for 10.30am and so made our way down to the harbour doe just before 10am. But the ferry to Amalfi was cancelled - no, delayed until 11.30am. Hmmm. So it was time to get a coffee and tea and wait it out for an hour. That unfortunately meant that our time in Amalfi was also cut short as we had booked another ferry from Amalfi to Positano at 2.55pm.
Our ferry ride to Amalfi was fairly quick and we marvelled at all the old forts that line the headlands around the coastline- that and churches that see to be everywhere. So many on the very top of hills, in the middle of hills and smack bang in the township.
We stopped briefly in Positano to let some passengers off and board more and we arrived in Amalfi in time for lunch and so immediately walked up the main piazza into the town proper - packed full of people, shops selling lemon stuff ( clothes, tea towels, lemoncello, everything lemon!) pizza shops, gelato shops and jewellery shops.
We grabbed a napolitano pizza and 4 peroni’s and headed back to the beach. A swim was in order after lunch and we swam in the Amalfi waters until 2.30 when we had to hurriedly get out and get ready to catch our next ferry to Positano.
After a quick ferry ride we arrived in Positano which was less busy than it was earlier in the day. We left the boat and went straight to the beach for a swim in the beautiful clear water. The stoney beaches are a bit of a pain but you get used to them. We bobbed around in the water off Positano for over an hour and enjoyed the view of the city behind us. Having left the sea, we found a lovely beachfront bar for a quick drink before heading into Positano town and wandering the streets.
Later we found a restaurant right on the beach edge and enjoyed a nice dinner. The best part was the bill which somehow brought our bottle of wine up at €0 so we ‘paid’ nothing for our bottle of wine. Got outta there quick!
The walk to the bus was pretty nuts . Virtually straight up the hill for a kilometre. Soo many steps and we arrived at the street to have a bus refuse to open its doors for us. A good 20 min wait to the next one.
The bus ride home took us around the sharp bends of the Amalfi coast and the headed inland towards Sorrento.
A short walk back the rough the Corso and onto our little lane ways got us home ready for bed after a big day exploring.
Tomorrow we will relax and enjoy the township of Sorrento proper.
