We awoke at 7.30 and because the day was looking great booked a ferry to the island of Capri at 11.10.
We walked across the top of the hill at Sorrento which has a spectacular view of the coastline and the harbour and descended down to the ocean via steps carved into the rock face and dug out to form a pathway. We walked past the ‘beaches’ and onto the port of Sorrento which was crazy busy with people everywhere. This is the hub to get ferry’s to the Amalfi Coast and islands and so people , luggage massive boats and all sorts of vehicles everywhere.
We already had our tickets which was fortunate as the ticket counters had enormous queues and so we found a cafe by the waters edge with a small table and enjoyed a panini and tea/coffee before jumping into the mayhem of people hearding onto boats.
The trip to Capri took about 30 mins and we were initially worried about the cloud covering almost the entire island. Luckily the sun melted it not long after our arrival and we continued some beautiful weather.
We explored Ana Capri and the Capri locales on the island . It was beautiful but very very crowded with people and so very touristy. We spent a good 2 hours of our time on the island waiting for buses. Sometime we have up and just walked and found some beautiful laneways and paths that were not crowded and quite lovely with great views of the Marina Grande and beaches.
We enjoyed our day but the ‘romance’ of Capri is a myth - it’s all for tourists paying overinflated prices.
Back in our beautiful Sorrento base and village we again enjoyed a drink at our “local” just a few steps away and watched the sunset. Then having changed and refreshed we strolled the foreshore and the seafood restaurants and enjoyed another lovely Italian meal on the waters edge.
We picked up some essential supplies from the local supermarche - cereal ,milk, fruit and Limoncello.
Tomorrow it’s Amalfi and Positano - back with the masses at the port and then exploring more of the Amalfi Coast.
