We left home just before 3pm and arrived at Sydney airport at 3.50pm. The Emirates checkin hadn’t opened then but was about to and so we were pretty well in from of most. After check in, Corinne was sat in a seat awaiting a wheelchair and ground crew assistance which arrived pretty quickly. We were wheeled to our private lounge at the airport and enjoyed a few hours of drinks and food before our flight. Only the Emirates staff forgot about us…. 3 phone calls a very rushed staff member later and we were well late beyond the final call for our boarding when they finally arrived. The poor Emirates girl would have set her personal best time for the lounge to the gate punching a wheelchair which was a good 10 min run! We were the last to board the A380 and they had already done the pre flight instructions!! We made it though and left.
In Dubai we were pushed into the ‘hotel Des invalides’ in the airport - a section for incapacitated travellers. We got a private tour of Dubai Airport in a hydraulic loading vehicle which took us both to the plane to Naples and raised and loaded us into the plane on the alternate door access. Very posh and freaky.
We arrived into Naples Airport at 12pm and were met on the plane by the ground crew who took us off by the same ‘private bus’ directly through the airport doors, bypassing customs, to the baggage pickup and then wheeled to the Alibus about 300 meters from the terminal.
We caught the bus about 20 mins into the Central station of Naples the Statione Garibaldi and walked about 700 m to our Air B&B.
We were a bit early for checkin and so we left our bags and walked back to the station to fin the hop on hop off city bus that drove us around all the city sites. There are 2 routes and we managed to get both of them done before hopping off at the Piazza del Gesu Nuovo where we found a bar for a quick Aperol Spritz and then dinner at a lovely pizza restaurant.
We walked back home after dinner - about 1.4kms through the old city full of shops and restaurants to finally crash after 33 hours of travel time.
Tomorrow it’s up early for the train to Herculaneum and then onto Sorrento
