Last week we spent catching up with Jonathan's family and hanging around at home. Then on Friday we headed off early to go snowboarding!
It was just Silas, Jonathan and me, and we headed to a slope called Mountain High. It was just over an hour's drive to get there, and we arrived easily before 9. We joined the queues for lift tickets and rentals, and I booked into a lesson at 10. I just got organised in time and left Jonathan and Silas to finish getting their gear. Silas had no snow pants or googles, although he had a jacket and we hired the boots.
I went off to the lesson, not sure what level I would be. I had only snowboarded for three days, 6 years ago! I told them that I had done it before and was sure I was in the wrong class....the instructor was talking as though I knew what I was doing and I wasn't even sure if I could remember a thing! Anyway, I was totally fortunate that I ended up with a good instructor and only one guy! It was almost like a private lesson! Thankfully we had similar abilities and had a really great lesson.
After the lesson I headed back down and found Jonathan and Silas. Silas and I had a bite to eat while Jonathan went off to do some runs. Then we went back up and let Silas have another go. He looked so cute with goggles and a snowboard, and he was doing really well!
Jonathan's mom and Carl had the little boys so we headed off mid-afternoon, already tired! :)
On the weekend we took the kids to the park and then did some shopping. Jonathan cooked dinner (his specialty, creamy chicken pasta with veg, and yes, there was chicken in this one ;]) which was delicious.
Sunday we went to meeting. We had intended to go the same meeting we went to last time in LA, but we left home without a map........uh-oh. Anyway, to cut a long story short, we spent about 2 hours driving (instead of one) and arrived (very late) at Roseda meeting, where Jonathan went when he was little. To make it worse, they have one way glass all the way along the drive side and we drove into the carpark, and then had to walk passed again to enter the hall! Nevermind.
After the meeting, we chatted to lots of people who remembered Jonathan and asked after his family. At the end we were chatting to U Carl and A Jamie Newth, who were very excited to tell us they had a niece and nephew in Perth ;) haha small world it is in the truth! They kindly asked us out for lunch with A Jamie's sister as well. We ended up going to McDonalds again so the kids could have a run around, which was in great - and they kept insisting next time we came over they would take us to an adult restaurant for a real meal! They were really good company and it was really nice to spend some time with people from the meeting. It was a beautiful sunny day (again) and they told us that they had been swimming on December 24th, because it has been so nice and hot in LA!
Monday we went to Magic Mountain, which is a big park of rides etc. I am not really into rides to say the least, but we still had a great time and got lots of fun out of watching the kids have fun, mostly Silas. He even went on some moderate rollercoasters with Jonathan. Later in the afternoon Jonathan went off for a few hours to queue up for some adult rides he wanted to try, and Silas went on some rides on his own (I had the little boys in the pram). He particularly loved a train ride, it was bumpy and similar style to a very tame rollercoaster and he went on it about 10 times in a row! He only had to queue up two or three times which was good. He had such a great time.
That's all to mention thus far! This probably will be the last of the post, seeing as tomorrow is the day we leave!!!! No grand plans for today, but I am getting excited to come home!
Look forward to seeing everyone soon God willing.
