Hello! We're not actually in Phuket anymore but I thought I'd give it its own entry as we were there for a week!
We got to Phuket after an hour flight from Bangkok and 45 minutes later, we were on Patong beach in our lovely hotel.
After weeks of Maccy D deprivation, the task at hand was to locate said restaurant and to enjoy a Big Mac ! Unfortunately, we thought we saw the only one was closed so headed towards Burger King instead, only to find out during the week that there were precisely 1,028 McDonalds on Patong beach. Its a fact.
After our meal of local food, I believe we went back to the hotel but it was over a week ago now so can't make any gurantees.
The next day we beached it properly for the first time since we have been away but being who we are, got bored after two hours. That is pretty much how the beach days went, plus it was tres hot.
I believe it was the third day of which we took a boat trip to the surrounding islands and like any cliche traveller in the south of Thailand, we visited The Beach. The guide kept saying the movie was filmed in 1994 though, which HAS to be incorrect. We think he may have been slightly muddled, or drunk. We also went on an island with an array of monkeys ready to take fruit from our hands. I got scared after a while though as they are known to, steal, bite and poo on your head. OH QUICK.let.me.see.those.monkeys.
The day after, we beached, bored, and ate again but I think it was the day where it started raining boo!
Our last day was spent, elephant trakking, rafting and tom foolery in waterfalls. The trak was amaziiinnnnggg! I really wanted the elphant to spray us but he didn't. Sob. They're probably trained not to. We both rode him on our own by sitting on the poor fellas head (the elephant, not the trainer. That would have been weird. Not something i'd happily pay for either) and though it was scary, it is something I am proud to say I did!
Then there was the rafting.......at first it was sooo good but at one very very very very scary moment, the raft capsized at the worst possible stage. lol. It was more embarrassing than anything. Nothing would have ever happened to us. Its just the odd position i found my butt in (in the air) while falling back into the boat. Seriously, forget about dignity when going on these things!
That night we felt we needed a stiff drink after our not so near death experience and headed out to town. We had the local delicacy for dinner, I think its spelt, pizza(?) or something and drank beer outside in the squary bit (btw those who have been to Ibiza, its exactly like the west end but with loads of er...shall we say...ex men. And I don't mean the Wolverine, Xavier type). We ended the night drinking from small half filled with ice buckets in a club and took a beach walk back to the hotel.
Anyways, it was a great week of sun, sea, sand, monkeys, elephants, ex men, old men with young ladys and loud American marines and it was sad to leave but Bangkok is awesome.
We have bow decided to extend our stay considering our visa thing runs out in twenty days as we don't feel we have truly travelled the south properly. Should be good!
Anyways, missing you all soooo much and will speak soon! Stay in youch. You stay classy San Diego xxx
