You know nothing tells you its Spring more than the flowers blooming, the birds chirping through the air, and the sound of a baseball hitting the bat at over 80 miles per hour. When you hear the noise of the bat cracking, you know one thing for sure, that Spring Training has officially arrived!
With the start of March, comes a whole new wave of visitors to the Valley from all across the United States particularly Washington, California, Kansas, and Texas. They all come here to see their favorite teams in action at various fields valley wide. Baseball is a huge thing down here in Arizona and ever since moving here, I have never been exposed to baseball more in my life. There are games that happen year around, even during the dead heat of Summer, and there are games that happen in the Winter when the rest of the country is suffering from feet of snow and bitterly cold temperatures. However, when you live in Arizona or visit Arizona, you will see one thing is for sure and that is that Baseball never dies at anytime around here!
My family and I have been to four different Spring Training games across the valley so far this month. Although, there are only about two weeks left of Spring Training, the memories will last for a lifetime. We started by going to the Kansas City Royals and Houstan Texans game here in Surprise at Surprise Stadium. That game was the absolute best one so far and I could not have asked for better weather! The air temp during the game stayed in the 70s and the sun was still low enough that it didn't bake you like you were in an oven. I got to experience that game with my immediate family as well as my Grandmother who lives in Peoria. The next game we went to was the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies game out at Salt River Field in Scottsdale. I absolutely love this stadium and it definitely represents Arizona well especially with the picturesque scenery surrounding the stadium!
Then, yesterday my mom and I went down to Goodyear and saw the Kansas City Royals and Cleveland Indians play one another. That game was a great experience, but unfortunately the weather was not as nice. It has been very warm lately with highs in the mid 90s which is rare for March down here in the valley. It seems like we were just experiencing Spring weather with highs in the 70s and rain last week and this week it seems like we heated up quickly to Summer. I sometimes ask myself, "Is Spring already over down here?" It seems like it only lasts about three or four weeks! The last game that I went to was today at Surprise Stadium against the San Diego Padres and Kansas City Royals. That was another great game with a Royals win, but the sun was very hot and I definitely got a good sun tan! Its alright though because it will give me good color heading into the Summer!
Hopefully we will make it to another Spring Training game tomorrow and next week before it ends for the season. I would like to go to a Chicago Cubs game out in Mesa and my mom would like to go to a Giants game in Paradise Valley/Scottsdale. We will see what happens and I will keep all of you posted as I always do on here!
