Once I finally arrived at my Hostel, I done my washing and cooked dinner. I saw that they had whale watching advertised. Whilst I was checking in I asked how to book it. She told me that I could book it there but once she called the company to ask they said that there were only three people booked on to the tour including myself and there needed to be a minimum of four. She told me to come back down in the morning to check. I had everything crossed. I then decided to have a drink at the bar. It was far too early to go to bed. I sat at the bar with two guys both from Australia. One of ladies from reception came over to tell us that the entertainment that was booked for that night had cancelled. Two guys from Quebec were staying at the Hostel were asked to stand in until someone else turned up. The person was friends with the lady from reception and she played the banjo. The guys finally agreed and they passed round paper and told people to write anything they wanted on it, it could be a word or a drawing anything they wanted. We decided that because we were from England and Australia that we would mess with them. We decided to write jumper instead on sweater and capsicum instead of pepper but we wrote normal things like egg and hedgehog as well. When they got to the jumper piece of paper they started singing a song that was about jumping rather than jumper, that was pretty funny completely lost in translation. They were very entertaining and to be fair they were put on the spot so they done really well. When the girl turned up with her banjo she seemed very nervous but she was amazing and very entertaining. After quite a few more drinks all I could think was I needed to get to bed to get up early and check on the whale watching.
I woke up had some breakfast and checked if they had called, nothing yet. Then at ten am the lady told me they finally had called and there were four booked on so it was all going ahead, yes! I went for a wonder before going on the tour because I didn't have much time in Victoria so thought I should make the most of it. I went to the office and met our tour guide Ian. He was also from the UK and was lovely. He took us out on a little speed boat. It didn't go fast at the beginning but it went when he got us put off the bay. Before we left he had been informed that there was an orca that had been sighted so he said that we were going there first of all to try and see him. It was very rare to see an orca at that time of year so we would be very lucky. As we got out we saw another company and they were with the orca. Whilst we were getting a bit closer we slowed down and we saw two humpbacks. It was an incredible sight. We stayed we the humpbacks for a period of time then we made our way over to the orca. I couldn't believe what I was seeing amazing, incredible these words did't even come close to what I was feeling. We stayed with the orca for a while but he just seemed like all he wanted to do was get from A to B so he wasn't going to do much more but it was still unreal to be that close to a wild orca. On the way back we detoured around some little islands where we saw loads of seal. I could not get a picture of them because they were on the rocks and it was too shallow for the boat to get there. Very clever seals if we couldn't get to them nor could the whales, cleaver! I was rather cold when we got back to shore and was looking forward to some dinner and warmth. When I checked into the Hostel they gave me two free food tokens which I used for free Burrito, yum. I ate dinner stayed up for a while, they started playing bingo but I know I had yet another long journey ahead of me. I had been speaking to be people at my Hostel and they told me I could have got a ferry from Victoria straight to Seattle, I did not know this and had booked a greyhound from Vancouver to Seattle.
I woke up at five am to make sure I would make it back to Vancouver in time. I had to catch a bus, a ferry, two trains then my coach this was going to be the longest day yet.
