This will be the first blog for Guatemala, will do another later.
Has certainly proved interesting, very different, fascinating, and a little disrupted by the wet season. Headed to Flores and saw Tikal which was amazing, fantastic to sit at the top of ruins on the same steps as the mayans did over a thousand years ago. From there the plan was Pete´s friends in Coban but the roads were flooded so back to Antigua for a night. That was a very interesting bus trip (as many of thenm have been). He were a million miles an hour and shaved the edges off all other traffic, no seat belts of course so we just hung on and laughed. Oh, forgot to tell you the bus home from tikal broke down and we had to flag one that was passing, for more Qetzels of course!!
From Antigua to Panajachel, a village on the edge of this Lake. This driver decided on a short cut, interesting term, we went around razor bends way up into the mountains. At the top it was pourin, there were landslides (nothing too big) and water all over the road. Just as we thought maybe we wouldn´t get there we came down and all was well. Dinner there was interesting, Toby wanted his steak well done and the gas ran out while it was cooking!!! Un problemo the man said, so we had to wait while a new one was delivered. It was worth it tho´my trout was delicious.
Headed out to the Chichicastenango markets the next day, awesome, teaming with people, and very colourful. Senor Pedro came into his own, we said what we wanted and he bargained. Often surrounded by 5-6 women or kids, all shouting at him, but he got the bargains. After that we got a boat to our new lodging here on the lake- amazing!!!! We shouted ourselves three nights in an awesome place, eat your hearts out. Hangs on a cliff above the lake, tropical gardens cascade down, we have views of 4 volcanoes, a hot tub, patios to swim from etc, rooms are very local and lovely. All that for not much expense. Mind you the way the dollar is today we may be on bread and water from now on. Took a boat to other villages today, will update you later, Petes friends are coming here tonight instead.
Have survived the food so far, Toby has eaten it all with gusto but could just be starving!!! The local girls find him hot stuff.
Love to everyone
