Hello there, first of all sorry for not uploading any photos recently but can not seem to find a decent computer at the mo which will alow me to upload. Right, I amgoing to let you all in on a little secret now. I lost my guidebook in venezuala after only two days. The reason I did not say anything is that I did not want my family worrying for no reason. The only guidebook I could find in english at that time was a 1999 footprint guide. Now for those of you who have not backpacked I will try to explain the significance of this, imagine you are travelling through countrys where you dont know where anything is and the language is not your mother tongue. Whwn you get off the bus usually after a ten hour journey or so it is importent you have a upto date guidebook to show you where hotels, banks, travel agencys, doctors and bus stations are. It also give you info on all the towns on route so you can decide if you want to visit them in the first place.I have had a few problems with not having a proper book such as going to a citys bus terminal to find it had moved ten miles, asking a taxi driver to take me to a hotel only to find that it had closed and so on. Now the reason I am telling you all this now is the story of how I got off the bus in a place called Pisco. Now in 1999 acording to the book this was a prosporous town with a big fishing community with lots of guesthouses, banks, cafes and so on. What I did not realise was that there was an earthquake here in 2001 which more or less destroyed the whole town.
Anyway I got lucky because a really cool guy named jimmy was waiting at the bus station to try and entice tourists to stay in the town. He found me a really cheap room which was 3 pounds a night and sorted me out a trip to the ilses ballista. This was a great trip in a speed boat to a group of islands 1 hour offshore where i so thousands of birds, penguins, seals, sealions and dolphins. everything went really well and I leave you as i am again filling time while waiting for the nightbus, this time to Arequiopa.
