I´ve just finished the Inca trail, oh my god it was hard.
Day 1 wasnt too bad, but it was classed as the ´easy day´and it defo wasnt easy! We camped up in the mountains which was a bit cold but not too bad. We got woken up at 2:30am cos a donkey walked into our tent tho...
Then we were up at 6am to start walking. Day 2 was the hardest thing i´ve ever done in my life, i honestly thought i was going to die. It was 5 hours of really steep uphill walking, and the steps arnt even proper steps, they´re just uneven lumps of rock which are SO hard to walk on. Then there was 2 hours of really steep downhill walking which was just as hard. I had a headache from the altitude as well (we were at about 4000m above sea level) so that made it even harder. I did NOT enjoy day 2.
Then up at 6am again for day 3 which was definately my fave day. It rained all morning cos its the rainy season in the Andes but the scenery was really nice, it was like a rainforest, with loads of cool trees and caves and wildlife etc. Plus the walking wasnt as hard (it was still REALLY hard tho!). When we got to the campsite there was a little bar so we could have a beer today as well. We had dinner with all the porters (who carry a ridiculous amount of stuff, its unbelievable how much they carry on the trek) and had some more drinks etc!
Then day 4 (today) we had to get up at 4am (yes, 4 o´clock in the morning) so we could ´see the sunrise´. But it was pissing down again so all we could see was cloud. Pretty pointless. Then we just wandered round in the rain and cloud for a few hours until it cleared and we could finally see all the ruins. It was really nice, got loads of photos etc which i WILL get on here in the next few days.
The whole thing was really good, i´m glad i did it but there is NO way i´d do it again, it was so hard. But the highlight of the whole thing (and i know this shouldnt be the highlight but it SO is)....we met Andrew Lincoln! As in the fit one out of Teachers, Love Actually, This Life etc! He was doing the trek too so i got my photo taken with him! So i´ll defo get that photo on here asap! ha ha.
We´re sat waiting for the train back to Cusco at the mo where i can finally have a shower after 4 days, cant wait....
