Back in Malaysia, we made a swift exit from KL. I dont know what it is about that place that makes me feel so stressed and i can never wait to leave the place. Anyway, Ae caught a bus up to the Cameron Highlands, a tea plantation area in the mountains. The journey took about 4 hours and the roads were winding that i felt a bit queasy. The views were amazing though. We were met at the bus station by the most laid back touts ever, offering to take us to guesthouses. We chose the one that looked the best and the cleanest and it was grand when we got there, thank God.
It was quite cold up there, relatively anyway. I was freezing but at least we got to use our fleeces. Went out for a banana leaf curry nad had an early night as we'd been up since 2am travelling from Bali.
Took it easy the next day as I wasn't feeling well, dodgy stomach that ended up lasting 4 days! It was nice to relax and read though. Next day, went on a trek in the jungle. We asked the man in the hostel for an easy route, coz God knoes we're not the fittest. I think he was having a laugh coz i swear, it was like climbing a wet ladder in places. Anway, when we got to the top there were about 5 trails to choose from and no signs. We chose the wrong one, obviously. I think we ended up folowing a dry stream all the way down. At one stage we had to climb over a landslide!! ( see picture) We got back safe and sound though.
We'd been told that the Perhentian Islands were closed already for Monsoon season so had booked to go to Thailand early. But that night we met a nice Scottish couple, Gemma and Andy in the evening who were supposed to be going there too. Gemma rang direct to the island to a dive centre to check and we got the go ahead to go and booked tickets. Went sightseeing the next mornig to Tea plantation and creepy crawly farm. Darren had scorpions on his t shirt!
Friday moved on to the Perhentian islands. Really lovely place but very quiet. Nice for a couple of days to relax. Stayed in lovely but basic A frame hut that was owned by an irish woman from Waterford. We've moved on again and arrived in Thailand yesterday. We love it already but more of that when we've done more here. Hope everyone is well.
Love Clare and Darren xxxxx
