A small town on the road up between Phnom Penh and the Laos border crossing. We stopped here for two nights and took a day trip to see the endangered Irrawaddy dolphins, visited a turtle conservation sanctuary and sweated our way up a whole load of stairs to see a temple and a good view! The countryside in Cambodia is lovely, flat and full of paddy fields, sugar palm trees and locals working hard to feed their families. Cambodians are very friendly and welcoming.

Leaving Kratie our next stop should be 4000 islands in Laos. However, in order to get there we had to cross the border from Cambodia over into Laos. Surely is was to be simple and easy yeh?
