We left Vang Vien on the 14th which took about 3 hours.. There isnt a whole lot to do in Vientiane apart from drinking..and having spent a week in Vang Vien that was the last thing we wanted to do! So we decided to change our route slightly and head up to Hanoi on a 24 hour bus. LaosWow so a bit to catch up on! After a mini bus ride to the Laos border (on which we met 2 nice girls, Jo and Kez) we then caught a 2 day slow boat to Louang Phobang. The slow boat consisted of two 8 hour journeys along the Mekong river. Not the comfiest journey ever but bearable and made it to Louang Phobang safe and sound! We booked into a 4 bed dorm room with Jo and Kez for a bargain price. The nightlife in Laos is not the greatest given that there is a 12pm...

Bangkok to Chiang MaiHello hello! Caught the 15 hour sleeper train to Chiang Mai from Bangkok on the 31st. We were in a carriage of about 20 people and had a small bunk each. Hardly slept then were brought breakfast at 9.30 am. Hey! So we arrived safe and sound via a rip off taxi to Khao San Rd and checked into a little guest house. Went for one with a swimming pool...gotta be done for first couple of days! Spent first 2 days hanging by the pool and sleeping a lot...yes yes lazy. On our 2nd night we checked out the bars and a club and got through a few buckets of the delightful Sangsom whiskey and red bull, end result was me (Suz) feeling very ill all of the next day...Claire handled it...
