This morning we were woken to the rather unusual sound of an anchor being lifted into the boat about 2 feet away from where we were sleeping at about 5 45 am. This was followed by 2 of the 'bonkers' staff leaping into our sleeping compatment at about 6 am.
We had to rise early though to take advantage of watching an amazing sunrise off Whitehaven Beach. It was definitely one of the most amazing sights we have seen this trip! Once the sun had risen and we'd had some brekkie, we made our way by small boats to Whitehaven Beach. Whitehaven is one of the most famous beaches in the world - it has the purest sand in the whole world, which even squeeks when walking on it, and we were lucky enough to make the first footprints in it this morning! We made our way up to a lookout point so we could all get the postcard style pictures that are available everywhere in Australia. Then we simply chilled out for the morning. We built sand sculptures (David's turtle was very impressive until another lad built a very convincing naked woman), spotted baby rays in the shallows, played 'coconut rugby' and took some 'bonkers' photos!
At about 10am the beach was starting to get packed with daytrippers so we all made our way back to the boat. We did a couple more dives which, to be honest, were a bit dissappointing considering how bigged up the diving is out here. Though we did manage to have a dance off at about 15 metres under which was the funniest things we have seen underwater.
We also made the decision to do our first night dive after sunset! Claire was a bit nervous at first, not that it was dark, just that we wouldn't be able to see any sharks coming to eat us for tea! It was a lot different from a normal dive, everything seems a lot more quiet and eeire underwater in the darkness - kind of like being in a graveyard. We saw the same sort of fish though including a ray.
We had a tea of Wombat Steaks that tasted suspiciously like like beef steaks, and were confirmed later on to be beef steaks. Again more wine and laughing later and as usual we were the last guys up again before going to our sleeping shelf.
