Cindy Aserkoff's Travels
The day started with a visit to a mountain to discover how the people live. We saw women who were paid to make cell phone calls, selling drinks, potatoes and eggs to name a few. We then visited a baker and watched him make bread and rolls. While we were there a young woman came to pick up her guinea pig for lunch with her godmother. The baker then pulled a fully roasted pig out of the oven for us to see. Our guide then gave us a list of items to find and buy at the local market. After accomplishing our tasks we then took a tuk tuk back to the square where we boarded the bus. Our next stop was an elementary school that grand circle supports through its foundation. We were greeted by the first grade class who led us by hand to their classroom. We introduced ourselves and then the children showed us their work. We then were entertained with local poems and then a dance performance by the first grade. Always a highlight of these trips. Finished our tour with lunch at a weaving house and demonstration of the weaving is done. One more day....
