Cindy Aserkoff's Travels
Today we did a morning orientation walk of cusco. We observed inca walls throughout the city that remain after two earthquakes. The Adobe structures that were built on top of the walls were destroyed in the earthquakes but the walls remain. We then toured the qoricancha sun temple, cusco'a most important ceremonial structure which once housed 700 sheets of gold. When the Spanish discovered the temple they stole all the gold. After the sun temple we walked to the plaza de armas. Here there are 2 churches, one of which we visited. We viewed the many chapels and paintings from the 17th century. In the late afternoon we visited a photography exhibit by Martin chambi of his black and white photos from the 1930's. Pictures were of local Indian people and Machu Picchu from 1930. We then had dinner at a recommended pizza place. We had blue cheese and elderberry pizza which was delicious. Tomorrow is "a day in the life".
