Our down time continues with lazy days and mellow evenings. Port Douglas is deceptively large, a long high street with heaps of coffee shops and trendy boutiques, quite expensive with lots of visitors and older locals - reminds me of the movie 'Batteries not Included'.
We wandered down to the harbour where we found waterside restaurants - too many to fit in before we go home. Port Douglas is very much like the Caribbean, maybe a bit more fancy. We ate at On the Inlet, a waters edge view, our table overlooked an area where the fish come for feeding, you could watch them for hours! There is a massive Grouper or Groper as they call them here - very friendly as he knows it's feeding time! G had a huge bowl of prawns, delicious, the waitress suggested we throw the heads into the water - cue mayhem and squabbling from the fish for the best bite to eat.
We finished off our evening in Hemingway's a micro brewery with a huge pub on the waterfront. Things finish up early here, closing down at around 9pm so no party nights here - well depends what time you have your first beer I suppose!
Tomorrow the Rainforest!
