We ventured out on a 190k, 4 hour drive to Milford Sound (Piopiotahi) in the Fjordland National Park. The journey was pretty heavy going lots of rain & bendy roads don't mix too well. Mr H did a great job, me as co- driver (back seat driver). We stopped off for coffee at Te Anau, the half way point. We are joining the MV Sinbad for a two hour nature cruise of the fjords out to the Tasman Sea.
It's pretty fresh here, the rain has stopped although it rains 200 days of year here! This trip was a must do on our visit to NZ, the scenery is breathtaking with vast snow capped mountains and enormous waterfalls.
Once on the water our trip didn't disappoint, beautiful scenery from the minute we set off. The rain last night ensured there were plenty of raging water falls for us to see. We went right up to a couple of the big ones, putting the nose of the boat under - a bit soggy but worth it! We saw seals resting and playing on the rocks - a group of teenage boys who had been thrown out of the colony to grow up (hmm, joke in there somewhere). We also saw a lone, rare yellow eyed penguin nonchalantly floating around the boat - pretty chilled out.
It was a long trip but definitely worth it. We are back at the apartment, packing up & head off on our own!
One last evening in fabulous Queenstown
