On the way from Pisco to Nasca we stopped for a few hours at Huacachina where there is an oasis in the desert and also an artifical oasis which is a tourist resort.
We went out into the sand dunes in dune buggies - basically wire cages on wheels. Once up there we did some sand boarding. I was actually not bad at it this time - I wasn't great at my first attempt in Namibia, this time wasn't as professional a set-up but it was so nice to have the buggy to drive us on to the next dune so we didn't have to carry the boards too far.
Afterwards we went to a swimming pool and splashed around for a while before having a lunch of Chinese dumpling soup and lomo saltado.
A few minutes up the road, we visited a place that makes the famous Peruvian brandy-type drink, pisco. We had a tour around the small facilities and an explanation of the process for making pisco now and in the past. Then we had the chance to sample five or six different types of pisco and local wine that they produced - some were nice and some were nasty.
After that we hit the road again... since we'd visited Islas Ballestas the same morning, it had been quite a truly action-packed day and a lot of fun
