Keane is blasting from the speakers here on the balcony of the OHANA hostel, one of the best hostels I've ever stayed in. Am looking out into the murky night skyline of Kuala Lumpur. It's a soulless megacity, a bigger contrast to India is almost impossible.
I sought out a new pair of thin long trousers to wear in the jungle as I feared having just one pair would come to haunt me. Sure enough, here in Kuala Lumpur you're tripping over malls. Everything is a mall. I also tried out Malaysian McDonalds, easily the best McDonald's country.
After a little bit of rest I headed back out this evening to get a closer look at those Petronas Towers. Still the tallest twin towers in the world, they were the tallest buildings for much of the 2000s. Kuala Lumpur is a strange city, a melting pot of European Financiers, Homeless Indians and Bickering Malaysian Fast Food Employees. It has glitz and glamour in spades but the dirt in the cracks is obvious.
I didn't really expect anything of KL. It's a business city, with copious Starbucks and fast food chains. About the only thing I think is interesting is the fact it has a monorail! Don't think I've ever used a monorail outside of Beaulieu. It seems a very inefficient system as it's very intermittent and the actual monorail carriages are on the small side.
Malaysians are also very polite. They are almost more stereotypically Britishly polite than British people.
I've been a bit of a Mr Bean extra today because am so tired and this ain't helped by my 7:30am flight tomorrow... and the fact the airport is so damm far away! Still, I often find I perform at my best when I'm at my most delirious! Moldova a case in point.
Anyway, ciao KL!
See ya!
