Spent a lot of time on metros today! Long journey on the Shenzhen metro, followed by an easy air conditioned border crossing.
I then made a rather long metro journey to central Kowloon, where my hostel is. Kowloon is the most densely populated urban area on Earth and it shows. Shenzhen and Shanghai have as many skyscrapers, but in Hong Kong the skyscrapers are much more crowded. Also, whilst I'm sure Hong Kong has its glitzy areas, I feel its grottier than the richer Chinese cities.
I've spent most of today chilling, looking desparingly at grad schemes and using youtube. I have until Friday night here so can afford to take things at a chill pace. I have made one forray out though, to see sunset at Tsim Tsha Tsui waterfront. Absolutely stunning view of the Hong Kong skyline.
First impressions of Hong Kong? Great to be back in the civilized world! Locals seem a lot friendlier here though the great inequalities are also glaring. There are many more foreigners, I hadn't realised Hong Kong had such a large Indian community. Also, obesity is clearly a bigger problem here than in the mainland.
Here's to my final week travelling!
Ciao!
