After being shuttled to an all you can eat Chinese breakfast by the exuberant old Chinese lady at reception, I made my way to the Wulingyuan entrance to the Zhangjiajie national park. Surprisingly the ticket queue wasn't too bad, and I got a student discount!
Zhangjiajie park is very large so you have to get a bus to various points and then hike or Cable car around. The buses are included in the ticket. The cable cars, no. Hence, it was a lot of walking.today!
For the most part it was fun! A nice circular hike of a few hours, largely shaded, with the occasional viewpoint of spectacular rock formations. It was blisteringly hot and the sun intense but luckily the forest is very extensive! The paths however are verrrrry steep. Some of the viewpoints and anywhere that was flat however were just hurrendously overcrowded. Also, whilst there's English signs saying 'dont litter' there aren't any for telling you where to go or where stuff. Overall, it's a quite confusing park and thanks to its size impossible to see it all.
I'm starting to get a handle on China now. Getting used to the motorbukes going down paths and people making noises you didn't think people could make. Anyway, am very tired so..
Ciao!
Also, Happy Birthday Dad!
