A quick shoping spree in Galway before hitting the road.
We headed off to see the Cliffs of Moher travelling south along the coast. The drive at times was quite scary due to the small winding roads, however, the view made up for the inconvenience! Nothing short of speactacular - it would have to be one of the most rugged coast lines we have seen - it was wild and windy and there were waves crashing up as high as 20 to 30 feet - spraying water everywhere!!!
It was so windy that in fact upon arriving at the Cliffs of Moher, they advised us not to do the walk as they could not guarantee our safety!!! They said to come back tomorrow - but for us there is no tomorrow, so we passed on the opportunity and continued driving.
We decided to head to Limerick then onto Cappamore - where our Grandfather was born. Cappamore is a bit off the beaten track as well, however, it was great stopping at the local pub - O'Dwyer's for a couple of Guiness's. The local publican made us feel completely at home in the place - in fact we could have stayed there a lot longer if time permitted - it had a great feel to it. The pub has been in the same family - 4 generations - since 1909. In addition to the local publican we met a couple of the locals - Mike, who has a daughter in Sydney and is coming out to visit her in November and another local. It was difficult understanding their thick accents but we managed - Nadeen was really struggling keeping up with the conversation and I was also having difficulty......they just wanted to know about Austrlai and in particular wanted to talk about the Rugby - Australia and Ireland play this weekend.
After a pleasant stopover and paying our respects at Cappamore, we drove onto Tipperary, then onto Cashel. The castle at Cashel was under heavy maintenance, so we gave that a miss and drove onto Cork.
We really only have tomorrow left as our last full touring day, as we are planning on some serious rest and recreation at the Listowel races on Wednesday and therefore not sure how well we will pull up on Thursday before returning to Dublin for our last night in Ireland.
We will try and catch up with Greta tomorrow in Cork before heading off to drive around the Ring of Kerry.
Booked into the Imperial Hotel here in Cork and are about to see what Cork has to offer. After dinner called in at one of Cork;s oldest pubs - Counihans - to listen to some music. The resident artist - Ricky Lynch - had a great voice and played a mean guitar, however, sang folk songs and no Irish songs!!!
We will have to wait until tomorrow night to have another fix of some traditional Irish Music.
