One of the most common sights in Morocco is the donkey. They are the most common form of transport after Shank's Pony.
On the road to Fes, somewhere south of Assilah, we were introduced to the local Park and Ride facility. People from the surrounding area are making their way to the town where they can trade at the markets. As usual, Dad rides the donkey while Mum and the children walk as far as the highway. Along that road, at intervals, are concrete shelters not unlike our own bus shelters. Here the donkeys are tethered or simply hobbled and left and the journey is completed by bus. It is all very civilised. When they return at the end of the day their prized donkey is waiting to take them home again. Donkey theft is unheard of.
