Christina´s Extraordinary Adventures Abroad!
Hey guys...well still doing good in Ecuador...I can come to town and check my email more often now... but it doesnt really matter though because on Thursday Im going to Karim's and they have internet at their house. We aren't really doing much at the orphanage...just playing with the kids...which I love...but I kindof wish they would let us help out more!! We always ask if their is something we can do but they always say no...its a cultural thing. On friday we went to some parties at the local schools in town one in San Lorenzo which is on one side of the orphanage and on in Pacoche which is on the other. It was fun just to go out with all of the kids...they all get dresses up and cleaned up and all looked soo cute! Saturday was our crazy day. We woke up early and came into town (Manta) to do the shopping for the week...this was an all day adventure...we also went to eat lunch at a friends resturante which is a huge treat for them because having someone offer to feed 15 people for free is rare. But it was really good and fun. Drew and I wanted to cook for them one night so we went to the store to buy everything we needed...we figured spaghetti was the easiest for a big crowd and they dont eat that often. So we bought all the stuff and got to cooking...which was an adventure in itself...try boiling enough noodles for 18 people!!!! For some reason they ended up sooooo mushy!!! Drew kept saying there wasnt anything wrong with them but there was!! But at least they tasted good. It was a pretty big deal when we cooked and everyone loved it. We wanted to be nice and cook with the best foods like sauce from the states and we got salad dressing from the states...and we knew that that stuff was stuff they couldn't normally afford so we wanted to be able to get that for them. But afterwards they saw how much we paid for everything and after dinner explained to us about how expensive that was for them....they were very greatful but I also got the impression they might have been a little offended that we just threw out $50 for one nights dinner. But thats what we wanted to do and the kids loved it so thats all that mattered!!! On Sunday we got up and went to church and ran a million errands to and then took the kids to the beach....it was alot of fun but kindof cold and nasty outside so we didnt really swim everyone just got disgusting!! LOL. There isnt any hot water there so everynight when I shower I boil some water to use with the freezing cold water...but after the beach yesterday I just felt so nasty the cold shower was fine. Because the orphanage is on a mountain and near the ocean everything is really damp all the time....EEWWW....it drives me crazy....and I alwasy feel gross....but oh well. As much as I love being with the kids everyday it is still very hard to LIVE there....so I am looking forward to going to Karims...if for anything else just the hot water and dryness and privacy...for the most part...LOL. Hopefully I will be going there on Thursday night and then heading back out to San Lorenzo with Karim and her friends for her birthday on Friday and back to Manta on Saturday. Im gonna like being there but Im gonna miss the kids soo much. I wish it was closer so I could just go there during the days and stuff. But hopefully I will be able to go back to say goodbye one more time before I come home. Till next time....love you guys and miss yall!!!
