Christinas travels!
It took a bit of climbing to get there but once you climb up to the viewpoint you see the best view ive seen since ive been away - the Great Barrier Reef. If I was coming back here again I would take a flight over the area and see it from the air as it would Im sure be well worth the money.
The snorkelling around the reef was spectacular with all the vibrant colours and shapes of the coral. Its like seeing a whole new world and you could stay under the water for hours just looking at all the tropicl fish as well. there is one fish called wally which is a napoleon maori wrasse and he loves being stroked by humans. every day he meets the boat trips and allows you to stroke him and hes massive.. i was lucky enough to see him and stroke him just from snorkelling but would of loved to have gone scuba diving around this area and seen even more. ive found wally by doing a search on the internet so heres a picture of him that someone else has taken when they were scuba diving. in the whitsundays they also name the fish like this and i met elvis too!! the guys running the sailing trip actually threw fish food all over our heads as we were in the water and within seconds we were surrounded by numerous fish...yet more screams from all the girls as the fish were flying out of the water trying to get to the food on us which looking back now was funny but at the time we could of killed the guy who did it!
the great barrier reef was the view I would of liked to have seen from the skydive but as you can see from the photos the weather was not brilliant around this time so I ended up doing the skydive from Cairns. I booked and paid for it down in Sydney so I knew I wouldnt bottle out of doing it - everyone in Africa had said how brilliant it was when they did it so I thought I ought to give it a go. Once it got cancelled on Monday I could of actually got my money back but I decided to go through with it as someone where I was staying was doing it the next day and so he encouraged me to go with him. Once I had done it I would of gone straight back up and done it again if money was no object! So Im sorry to say Mum but I might do another one one day but dont worry not on this trip!
Ive now flown down to Sydney as I needed to be back down here to catch my flight to Fiji. I leave on Tuesday and Ive got nearly 3 weeks there to go island hopping. There are over 300 islands to choose from and after having spoken to several people who have been there I have a good idea of what ones Im going to go to. One of the girls from the sailing trip is going too so Ill have some company for some of the time...Im looking forward to doing nothing for a couple of weeks as believe it or not but I havent actually done much sitting on a beach relaxing in the whole time Ive been away....well maybe the odd day!
Although I fly into New Zealand on route to Fiji Ive decided not to stay - everyone has said its a great place and I would like to go but is cold and raining there at this time of year - so when I had the choice of rain in New Zealand or more time to spend in the sunshine of Fiji you can guess what option I went for.
