I apologise that this photo is from Rio, I am not in Rio, Im in Sao Paulo but if you think im getting my camera out here and taking a photo you have got to be kidding! Stella and I just walked the two block radius around our hotel and once again I stick out like a sore thumb, tourist, tourist, money, money!! We have been advised not to speak loudly on the streets so that people dont hear the english and know that we are foreign! Scary. Anyway so we are staying in a very affluent neighbourhood where the blocks of high rise condos are amazing - gorgeous buildings, really nicely done. We also had a very nice dinner in one of the many cafes and the beef here is good!!
So yesterday was our introduction to flight delay drama. We got to Lima airport at about 4pm on Saturday and our flight out to Sao Paulo was at 1am Sunday. We were doing very well killing the time, eat, sleep, email etc when we noticed that the board said delayed until 8am sunday. 8am!!! Went backwards through customs, everything that had been filed was stamped ANULADO, stood in a queue for the LAN service desk with nothing happening waiting for a voucher for a hotel for an hour getting steadily more inclined to stab someone with the blunt end of a biro and FINALLY were put in a taxi. Now comes the good part. Our hote voucher was for the Sheraton (think thats how u spell it), as in the upmarket chain. The room was worth 150 pounds. And god damn the lobby was like nothing ive ever seen in my life nor am likely to see again.
It was looking good for LAN airline then, all was forgiven, except that on the plane mine seemed to be the only private entertainment system not working so the official verdict on LAN is MUST TRY HARDER. Still, this hotel was sweet, I shall try to upload a photo of the lobby. I cant get over it.
So we arrive in Sao Paulo, finally, and it is chucking it down with rain. Beth and I muttered as one; we need to get to a beach and fast, so tomorrow is bus ticket buying day. Seriously need some sun! Esp as its meant to be summer here!! Im also finding it tricky because I dont speak any Portuguese and Sao Paulo isnt that touristy so they speak portuguese at me and shrug at the english. Thank goodness Argie Bargie and Chile habla espanol!!
Reading Bill Brysons book Down Under book and it is making me laugh A LOT. I think Beth is a little embarrassed to sit with me.
Final word on a technical note there are 80 pics from the Inca Trail, yes 80 so I still need to upload the rest. So so pleased that people are enjoying reading the blog and seeing the pics. I will keep you up to date. Lots of love xx
