Hey!
After spending yesterday hiding in our hotel from the insanity outside we've just returned from an amazing day visiting the Taj Mahal.
As mentioned, we spent a majority of yesterday in the freezing cold hotel organising our excursion to the Taj Mahal and how we were going to get south (to the warmth!!), only venturing out for a really good Nepalese dinner and to buy train tickets...which was fruitless and scary, despite many peoples advice to us not to fall for the scams.Obviously not the seasoned travellers we thought we'd become!
6:30am rise and our driver picked us up from our hotel, packed breakfast courtesy of the hotel!! It was still dark and the only thing on my mind was to catch up on some much needed sleep.
Me with my blanket and Laura with her hotel pillow (which woke-up and un-nerved the hotel staff!!?) got into our taxi on the road to Agra.
Didn't really sleep much but as we've learned already in India there's always something going on to keep you entertained, shocked, amused etc. so the drive wasn't too bad!
Agras' not much to look at so I'll get straight to the Taj...
Amazing. One of the most beautiful and Intricatly designed monuments I've ever seen.So much detail and if you ever get to go, trust me it pays to have a guide. Along with the history we were informed on the how's and why's down to every single detail such as why translucent marble was used, why the minarets at the sides were leaning, how they were able to use the array of colourful, precious stones around the world....I'll let you into the secrets when we get back!
50 photos each later (one including Laura doing the Diana pose!) been taken to a precious stone & marble craft shop and a jewellers by our guide and being put in awkward situations and pressed to buy something (this tricks getting old now) we travelled back to Dehli.
Drive was horrible and the constant beeping & chaos had us wishing for a speedy journey all the way back!
Feel very privileged to have seen the Taj Mahal and sharing the photos!
Christian & Laura
