Smarties travels
Hey guys, guess what, fallen behind again so it`ll just be a brief postcard. cusco was a really beautiful city and full of tourists due to having machu picchu on it`s door step and because of that the prices of most things are like back home as well. we spent a few days in the city before headding off to do the inca trail. the inca trail was fantastic. day 1 was easy enough pretty flat walk with a bit of uphill at the end. dee and me decided to be tight and not hire the services of a porter so we carried all our stuff which didn`t make it any eaiser! day 2 was uphill pretty much all the way. dead womans pass (the highest point of the trek) is at 4215 meters. sweating like pigs we made it up there but didn`t wait for the rest of the group because it was hammering down and you couldn`t see any more than about 50 feet so not much of a photo op there and it was freezing up there. day 3 we woke up to donals legs coverd in huge blisters after getting infected mozzie bites. not nice!! we decided to go all the way to machu picchu on the third day insted of waitng and doing more trekking the next day, lucky we did. the view was fantastic, a bit cloudy but not bad at all. machu picchu was amazing but it was the trek that made it really special. day 4 and we woke up at 4 in the morning to have breakfast and head up to machu picchu again for a more indepth tour of the place. it was hammering down when we were there and you could bearly see the buildings around you due to the mist so we were really lucky the day before. after that we had a train ride back to cusco and then all we had to look forward was the galapagos!!
