On the last day I finally realised it was the staff from the next door hotel who started wheeling trolleys around at 5am that was causing us to wake up so early. Anyway we had an early breakfast and hit the beach for a few hours of sun and a last dip in the sea - in fact it was harder to come out of the sea for the last time than leave the beach. Diana headed back up to the room first for a shower. As she stepped out of the shower the phone rang, it was our helpful rep calling to tell us that our flight home was delayed for 2 hours. This meant that although we still had to check out of the room at 12 noon we could use the facilities in the hotel until 2pm when our bus came to collect us.
A last and extremely strong cocktail (I think the barman had taken pity on us) then we headed off for something to eat - feeling over dressed in the restaurant, most people were in beachwear whilst we were dressed to travel home. A small highlight was watching the woodpecker on a tree near where we were sitting.
As we were waiting for the bus to arrive some minor celebrity and his entourage arrived - people watching passes the time quite well. Check-in and security was uneventful although the duty free experience was frustrating. Not much to say about the flight home except that it was 2 1/2 hours shorter than the flight out. We cleared customs in the UK and phoned for our car which was delivered right outside the airport within 15mins. A minor detour off the motorway to get fuel and a very odd driving experience with jetlag. We stopped to eat at Morrisons in Wincanton - we were definitely nearly home as there were people in the supermarket in wellies. Then we cut across country to take Chris back to Cheddar. Our holiday was over - but most definitely not the last time we will visit the Yucatan Peninsular - we have already deciding where we would most like to stay when we go back!
