Where does one start! Bangkok has been an amazing experience in so many ways. Firstly we realised how unfit we were and secondly what a protected life we had both been living for the past two and a half years. As a tourist your success in Bangkok is measured on your knowledge of how things work? Taxis, tuk-tuk's and scooters can literally defy the laws of "taking the piss"! After a few miss haps we've got the hang of things. Don't take "set rate" taxis. Only ride tuk tuks when Kate's around because she loves them and don't get too upset when things don't go your way.Landing up at random Tailor stores and jewellery shops are part of the journey.
We met up with some of Kate's school friends which she hasn't seen in 4 years, Camilla, Dan, Kaleigh, Katie and Tammy. We went all over the city. The Grand palace, Wat pho, Koh San road ( although a bit short due to heat exhaustion), a turbo charged long tail boat which flung dirty river water all over us and drinks on the most amazing roof top bar in Bangkok. This city is limitless! The street vendors sell everything from freshly blended fruit smoothies to fried scorpion! Your imagination cannot get close to the possibilities that Bangkok can deliver. Spectacular
After three nights here we have just boarded the train heading for Chiang Mai. I'm currently siting in my sleeper "cabin" after having had a couple of Singha's and a pleasant chat to a young man from Seattle. It really feels like we're traveling now and Kate is in the bunk above me and Im Hoping like hell that she doesn't decide to roll over in the night, otherwise, situation!!!!!! By the way these trains are actually rather pleasant. No chickens, good aircon and cleaner linen than our hotel in Bangkok. They also sell beautiful fresh fruit platters and bottles of beer straight from the ice. Pretty cool. I wonder if metro rail in Cape Town will catch on?
We're having some problems with uploading pictures onto our blog but will hopefully get it going soon. Check out Facebook in the meantime. Any help with IOS devices not supporting flash is welcome.
Chiang Mai bound.........
