Ok, day 2 in the bustling metropolis called New Delhi.
I realised today that no matter where you go in the world, you will still come across people trying to rip you off. But hey, that part of the story will come later.
Today we awoke and had breakfast with a chai tea after a shower. Once breakfast was done we made our way with Alibaba to the tourist house and hired a tourist car (and driver) to help us get around the city and pay a little less.
It was a good day out in the city. We made our way to the Red Fort which was closed because of strikes that were taking place in and around the city.
The outside looked alright.
We then made our way down the main road in search for a restaurant that is recommended in Lonely Planet. We didn't find it.
But we did find another very popular and busy restaurant which served us an amazing order of Thali. This dish consists of a little of everything; achar, pickle, paratha bread, a kind of chutney, daal, and a kind of green sauce.
Definitely recommend it, really good meal.
We then made our way to Akshardham Temple. You would think that something with that name would be a few hundred years old but in fact it is only 6 years old.
It is a White marble and sand stone which has been carved by hand and took 5 years to build.
It is absolutely amazing. Just WOW. The carvings are done so brilliantly and life like that it just blows you away.
The temple had fountains and walk ways, gardens and statues and random explanations of the Indian culture, heritage and traditions. It was really good to go in and see all of this.
And even more amazingly it was free.
We then made our way through the city to the Lotus Temple. This is amazing. It just sits in the centre of it's green surroundings, like the giant Lotus it is made out to be.
After this we took the cab home and relaxed. Tonight is our last night in New Delhi.
A recommendation to anyone travelling to New Delhi, make sure you have you hotel/bnb/hostel or guest house confirmations all printed out. The guest house owner tried to add charges onto the amount for the room and did not supply the services that was advertised on the website, such as WIFI & an ON SUITE.
In all. Our second day in India has gone amazingly well. And we enjoyed every second of it.
But from the weather forecast for Bombay and Goa, we are planning to skip them in the trip and head to Calcutta after Agra. Then to Darjeeling and then to Calcutta again for the flight to Bangkok.
I am looking forward to the Thai Beaches and food... XS
