Wednesday 4 SeptemberWe wondered how cold it would get and the answer is below zero. We wrapped up as much as we could for the night, but it looks like all our clothes will be worn on this part of the trip to keep warm. The other problem was being kept awake by everybody else's generators or gas heaters that came on every 20 minutes. I'd bought an extra fleece blanket to slip inside my old faithful thin sleeping bag that saw me around the world last time for SB. Everyone was a bit chilly and with numerous trips to the toilets no-one got much sleep. It was even worse on Thursday night, but at least this night we had more fleeces and sleeping bags to go round. The dress code was "everything you've got" ! The next morning we found ice on the top of the tent, the water carrier was completely frozen and the only breakfast served was that with hot milk. Whose idea was it to camp at 8000ft anyway - that's mountain skiing height. So we headed north - where it is lower, and on Friday night were positively basking in heat of probably 40'f!Friday 5 SeptemberFishing Trip. Ct by his own admission is not a great fisher - I have had some experience and been quite successful. Having packed up the tent and got on the road at a late 11.30am, we made our way past the marina - the only sensible place to hire a boat. Dashing in to the information centre to ask where the boats were, I came running out with a map signed by the ranger - "you win" - I knew we should have pulled off! Various trips were available and we picked the one where we were out for 2 hours on a boat driven by someone else. It was too cold and we didn't know the lake for us to do it ourselves. So after we had put on long johns, recently purchased hats, off we went. Fast - out of the harbour to the best fishing area. It wasn't much of a fish, as there was an electronic rod to ensure that the hook got to the bottom of the lake - some 60 ft, the rod was then perched in a holder until the line went slack and then all you had to do was reel in. Well we did v well at that landing 3 rainbow or lake trout - the local predator weight 2-3lb each - dinner. There was a bit of a lull then we also hooked one of the local cut throat trout that had to be put back in the water. So although I had cooked a stew for tonight, we got out the foil, lemon and olive oil and set to work to have a meal completely cooked on the fire. Trout, Baked potatoes, sweet potatoes, sweet corn and baby carrots. Not a great fish fan - of eating that is, but even this was very enjoyable. 3 was far too many so we made some friends on the campsite by giving away the other 2!
